Do It Well...

In the June 19th devotion of BibleInOneYear.org, Nicky Gumbal was sharing thoughts about how Solomon built the Temple some 480 years after the Israelites were freed from Egypt. Solomon had been given very precise details as to how the temple was to be constructed...Nicky's comments included: 'excellence was of the upmost importance because it was the place of God’s presence. God’s name was at stake. They did everything as well as they possibly could. It was ‘dazzling’ (v.22, MSG) and ‘no expense was spared’ (7:9, MSG). If excellence was a high value for them, it should be an even higher value for us now that God’s presence is in us.'

He went on to say 'It is worth noting that God is not in a hurry! ‘In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign… he began to build the temple of the Lord (6:1).

The temple in the old testament points forward to the people of God. We are God's house. God lives in us individually. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. The church today is the holy temple of the Lord in which God lives by his Spirit. This is God's house today.'

Two apects of the temple construction included the two doors and the floor, which were constructed using Juniper wood. Never having used or seen Juniper, my Google search revealed pictures of Juniper tables, which made me think of a table I just completed today for my Granddaughter Megan's new apartment. Megan's table has an oak top with painted pine legs and braces. It strikes me that this table will probably still be around long after I am gone, hopefully reflecting the loving care I took for my sweet Megan.

As Nicky said above, so well: 'God lives in us individually'. I have often said, God has blessed each of us with unique strengths and interests, which we can use to bless others, who cross our paths. Let's be reminded today, that God has a plan, He wants to use us everyday. Collectively, all we have to do is seek His guidance, and use all of  those various talents, which He has given to His children in order to bless others.  Our challenge today, Be a blessing... and Do It Well...
