Life is a learning curve...

Wikipedia defines a learning curve as a graphical representation of the increase of learning (vertical axis) with experience (horizontal axis). An ideal learning curve is shown to the right, where a person's skill level is shown on the graph as a function of time spent learning something. Ideally, a person's skill level will continue to increase with time spent, however as skills are mastered, the rate of learning tends to level off at a high level over time. In a perfect world, our skills will remain at a high level throughout our life and our challenge is to maintain it as long as we are able.

As we look back over our life, we can see how most of our skills and abilities have increased as we mature. Of course, the aging process will slow us down and the ideal learning curve may become more and more difficult to maintain. Describing our life as a learning curve, I would like to take it to the next level and say that we could rename the 'y' axis to 'effectiveness as Christians' and the 'x' axis as 'obedience to God's leading'.

Today, as I look back over my life, it is easy to see how God has protected me and been a constant source of guidance. The Effectiveness as a Christian (Y axis) will be a direct result of my Obedience to God's leading (X axis). Of course it depends upon my desire to be guided and my willingness to be obedient!

Let's face it, our life is a "learning curve", where our growth and effectiveness as God's children will be a direct result of seeking and following Him.
