Perfecting Holiness out of reverence for God...

Paraphrasing wikionary.com and some churches, Holiness, or sanctity, is the state of being holy or sacred, that is, set apart for the worship or service of God. It is a purity of the heart, undefiled, separate from sin(ners). We cannot become holy without the Spirit of God.

Paul tells us in 2 Corintians 7:1 "Since we have these promises dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God."

He is referring to the promises of the previous chapter, where Paul had admonished the Corinthians to be separate and not yoked with unbelievers. He went on to say, "We are God's temple and God promises to be with us and walk among us and be our God." I believe that Paul is saying that being yoked with unbelievers can contaminate our body and keep us from perfecting holiness.

Today, let us resolve to seek a closer relationship with God, who alone can strengthen us and enable us to do his will, thus perfecting holiness within us.
