Serve Christ in your work...

Reading Colossians 3: 17, 23-24 "and whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (v23) "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord christ you are serving"
Paul is giving rules for Holy living and for Christian Households. This advice is similar to that given to me by my dad when I was a young boy: "If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well." This was good advice, but it lacked the true purpose of doing it in the name of the Lord Jesus, and giving thanks to God. As parents, we need to be sure to thank God for all of our God-given talents and to give Him thanks daily as we use these talents in service to others.

I will strive to carry this important message to others so they will be fulfilled in their work and in their life in Christ. Dear Sovereign Lord, please guide and enable my work such that it will be a blessing to others and be a witness to serving you. Amen.

I was asked to help making quilts for missions but was chided for being too 'picky' in my preparation of the fabric, etc resulting in too small and too slow an output. I would suggest that our gifts to missions should reflect well on our savior by being as well done as you would do for yourself. Also, I would suggest that Biblical truth is TRUTH even in the secular realm and so when dad said what he said, he may not have had Scripture in mind but it was still TRUTH even though he lacked the proper motive.
