Honor your Father and Mother...

Today was truly a blessed day. Pastor Mick preached another of his continuing sermons on the Ten Commandments. Today was entitled "Honor your Father and Mother" from Exodus 20:12. I find myself sounding like a broken record when I say...boy, he nailed it! He examined this Fifth Commandment from the aspect of us as children honoring our parents, and also from the standpoint of us as parents honoring our children and parenting them according to biblical principles. He even talked about how as children, we sometimes need to forgive our parents' failures. In fact, the importance of taking the initiative to restore broken or strained relationships, even when we feel that we have been the ones who were wronged.

So often we are reminded that our actions and our love shown to our children are much more important than our words. We won't always get it right...we're human! But we need to show our children that we can say we are sorry when we fail and that we are not perfect! It's so true when Mick says, your children are watching...and it's 24-7 and we must be authentic people because our children observe our behavior and learn from us.

I was thinking about how in my last blog I commented on our earlier discussion about how, as parents, we need to take that sometimes brief moment to create a memory for our child that will stay with them for their lifetime. Mick and Mickey are travelling together with others in our church on a mission trip to Thailand. This will undoubtedly be one of those life-changing opportunities for Mickey and others on this trip. My prayer is that every person on this mission trip will be changed and there will be God Sightings all over the place!
